About Us - Maria Foley, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary

Maria Foley joined Nations Petroleum in 2005 as Deputy General Counsel and became Co-General Counsel a year later. In 2009, Mrs Foley was appointed as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary and leads Nations’ global teams for legal and corporate development. Prior to joining Nations, Mrs Foley served as Tirtamas Group's General Counsel for over 11 years reporting to the Chairman, Mr Hashim Djojohadikusumo. In this role, she provided advisory and transactional work in corporate and finance including mergers and acquisitions (including the acquisition of Nations Energy), loan transactions and debt issues, commercial dispute resolution and litigation, projects and infrastructure, tax, competition, intellectual property, corporate governance and compliance. She also acted as Corporate Secretary to the Group’s international holding structure. She has acted as non-executive director for various companies within the Group. Before becoming Tirtamas’ General Counsel, Mrs Foley was General Manager Corporate & Legal reporting to the board of PT Tirtamas Comexindo where she gained experience in countertrade transactions and had legal/corporate oversight over the company’s worldwide operations. Mrs Foley completed her articles with White Cleland Solicitors, Melbourne where she specialized in litigation and debt recovery work. Mrs Foley is presently based in the United Kingdom but has lived and worked in Australia, Asia, Russia and the CIS. Born in Indonesia, she obtained her double degrees Bachelor of Science/ Bachelor of Laws from Monash University and in 1992 was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Australia. She is a member of the International Bar Association.
