Joyce Holtzclaw has been selected to be the 2010 SPE DeGolyer Distinguished Service Award. The DeGolyer Distinguished Service Medal recognizes distinguished and outstanding service to SPE, the professions of engineering and/or geology, and to the petroleum industry. The candidate must be a member of SPE with at least 15 years professional experience in the petroleum industry. Joyce will be presented her award in September, 2010 at the SPE Annual Banquet which is a featured event during the Society’s Annual Conference and Exhibition being held in Florence, Italy.
Joyce currently serves as the Exploitation Manager and is head of reservoir engineering. She served as a Senior Reservoir Engineering Advisor for Vintage Petroleum in Bakersfield, CA. Before Vintage, Joyce was the Exploitation Asset Team Leader and Senior Engineer for Berry Petroleum Company, also in Bakersfield. While at Berry, Joyce led development for all of Berry's diatomite and non-traditional California assets. Prior to Berry, Joyce spent over 12 years with Chevron in various engineering and operating roles working on steamflood projects throughout the San Joaquin Valley. Before Chevron, Joyce spent time at Coseka Resources, Champlin Petroleum, and Amoco working the Rockies and West Texas. Joyce studied at the Colorado School of Mines and earned her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and MBA from the University of Nevada, Reno.
Joyce is active in the Society of Petroleum Engineers, where she served on the Board of Directors as the Western Regional Director from 2001-2003. She also Co-chaired the 2005 and 2008 SPE Western Regional Meetings in Irvine and Bakersfield, respectively. She was the 2008 recipient of the SPE Distinguished Member, the 2008 SPE Public Service Awards, and 2009 Society of Petroleum Engineers Distinguished Award.

Jeff Jones, a long standing member of the San Joaquin Valley Section of SPE, has been selected to be a recipient of the SPE Distinguished Service Award. The SPE Distinguished Service Award recognizes contributions to the Society that exhibit such exceptional devotion of time, effort, thought and action as to set them apart from other contributions. Jeff will be presented his award in September, 2010 at the SPE Annual Banquet which is a featured event during the Society’s Annual Conference and Exhibition being held in Florence, Italy.
Jeff is currently the Production Manager for Nations Petroleum (California) LLC. Jeff has worked for more than 30 years on steamfloods in the San Joaquin Valley at various companies. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of California. He holds 4 patents and has written or co-written more than 17 SPE papers. Most recently he authored the Steam Enhanced recovery chapter of the new Petroleum Engineering Handbook. He has also taught a course annually in Steamflooding with Farouq Ali for more than 15 years. Jeff was the 2002 recipient of the SPE Production and Operations Award, the 2004 Thermal Pioneer Award, the 2004-2005 Distinguished Lecturer, and the 2010 IOR Pioneer Award. Jeff has been a technical editor for various SPE journals for many years and has been and associate editor for the last couple of years. He was a founding member of the committee to organize the first International Heavy Oil and Thermal Operations Symposium and has co-chaired or been program chairman of at least 10 different SPE meetings in the region.
